DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES FOR RESALE SHOP ASSISTANT MANAGER:

Provide exceptional customer service to all donors and shoppers to ensure the absolute best customer experience.  Run the Sales floor twice a week in the absence of the Resale Shop Manager. This includes opening and closing procedures and ringing sales as needed. Maximize revenues through use of approved marketing and display techniques, appropriate pricing practices and excellent customer service.  Train and schedule volunteers to ensure a positive customer experience. Train volunteers on proper cash handling procedures and ensure that processes are followed accurately.  Ensure shop is kept neat, clean and orderly with merchandise aesthetically displayed.  Provide exceptional customer service to all donors and shoppers.  Ensure availability of all necessary supplies by maintaining and replenishing inventories as needed.  Understand pricing and processing procedures sufficiently to be able to turnover merchandise and achieve sales goals.  Must have a firm understanding of current boutique brands for processing a high volume of clothing, handbags and shoes.  Obtain online pricing comparables on rare books, antiques, instruments, china, silver and other potentially valuable articles.  Assist where needed with inventorying all estate donations that exceed $100.  Assist when needed with the Facilities department to ensure the physical facilities and equipment are maintained, including but not limited to air filters, refrigeration, lighting, heating and air conditioning units.  Assist when needed with graphic designer to determine need for and placement of appropriate signage in and around the resale premises.  Assist with other departments to promote the store to their clients.  Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws.  Go on furniture pickups and set up the weekend donation launch pad as needed.

Maintain compliance with HWAC policies and procedures.  Perform all duties in accordance with established Center safety standards.  Participate in Center activities and events as required.  Complete other assignments as required.  Represent HWAC standards of professionalism.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS FOR RESALE SHOP ASSISTANT MANAGER:

Must have a strong sales background as well as extensive merchandising experience in home decor. High school diploma, some college preferred plus at least six months supervisory experience. Retail experience preferred as well as good public relations skills. Must have strong organizational skills. Must be punctual and reliable; able to manage own time and function independently in an unstructured environment with minimum supervision. Must also possess leadership skills and the ability to train volunteers. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted.  Working knowledge of Windows and Word required.  Must be able to balance many tasks and be flexible in prioritizing workload.  Should possess strong verbal and written communication skills.  This position requires a great deal of standing, walking and kneeling, reaching, stooping and bending.  The person in this position needs to be able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds as he/she will be packing, unpacking and otherwise moving around a wide variety of boxes, bags, furniture and household items as well as other items donated to the shop.  Good vision and manual dexterity is required for inspecting and sorting goods for display and sale.  This person works with others nearly all the time.  This includes shop customers, volunteers, community service workers and HWAC employees.  There will be frequent interruptions.  Working conditions include being around and handling dusty, sometimes soiled and dirty clothing, furniture and other household items.  The store is typical of a small retail facility and is air-conditioned and heated.

Employee must demonstrate ability to work effectively with others (including co-workers, customers, and others) by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress, timetables and issues; and addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions.

Employee must demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

As this position may require occasional driving duties, employee must possess a valid Driver's License.  Employee must complete a Driver Information Form and provide a recent DMV Driving Record Report to be kept on file, as well as proof of insurance.
